Ex-Patterson FD Treasurer Sentenced In $1M theft
PATTERSON, N.Y. -- Albert Melin, the former Patterson Fire Department treasurer, accused of ripping off the department for more than a million dollars, was sentenced Friday to 33 months in prison, according to Preet Bharara, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York.
Melin, 46, who pleaded guilty in November to wire fraud and submitting false tax returns, could have faced up to 20 years in prison.
The sentence includes an order for Merlin to repay $1.349 million in restitution and in unpaid taxes.

Beloved Clarkstown K-9 King Dies
CLARKSTOWN, N.Y. -- After only a year in retirement, K-9 King, the longtime partner of Clarkstown Police Officer Bob Reilly, died Thursday, according to the Clarkstown Police Department.
"This morning we recognize and honor the service “King”, retired in 2016 after eight years of exemplary service to the Department and to the Town of Clarkstown," said Officer Peter Walker.
King was an 11-year-old German Shepherd born in the Czech Republic. He was named in the memory of Sean King, son of Dr. Richard King of Valley Cottage, Walker said.
