Expect Delays: Traffic Alert Issued For Gran Fondo Race In Ramapo RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Ramapo residents should be ready for plenty of traffic delays, but also quite a show when the annual Gran Fondo Bicycle race takes place Sunday.Residents can expect a few thousand bicyclists traveling through the area as the race passes through town beginning at 9:45 a.m. and ending around 2:30 p.m., said the Ramapo Police Department. Routes 202 and 45 are the only roads that have been noticeably impacted by the event in the past, police said. Residents are encouraged to use alternate routes and expect delays.

A 12-member jury found Town of Ramapo Supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence guilty on Friday of 20 of 22 federal charges of rigging the town's financial books in order to receive lower rates on bonds to finance a baseball stadium in Pomona and other town projects. The jury returned guilty verdicts on 12 wire fraud counts and eight counts of securities fraud. The 65-year-old St. Lawrence, who lives in Wesley Hills, was acquitted of one count of securities fraud and one count of wire fraud. Planet Wings In Town Of Poughkeepsie Remains Closed Following Fire DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- Planet Wings in the Town of Poughkeepsie will remain closed following a fire Thursday night that caused heavy damage to the roof area, according to the Arlington Fire District. Arlington firefighters arrived within a minute of receiving the call around 1:45 p.m., for the restaurant at 661 Dutchess Turnpike, said Arlington Fire Chief Tory Gallante. Firefighters made forced entry into the building and encountered heavy smoke conditions inside. A further investigation revealed an active fire in the roof area, Gallante said. Two Charged With DWI Had Open Bottles In Separate Incidents, Ramapo PD Says ROCKLAND COUNTY< N.Y. -- Two men who were charged with DWI on Wednesday by Ramapo police in separate stops had open bottles of vodka in their vehicles, and one had a blood-alcohol level more than four times the legal limit.The first arrest occurred around 6 p.m. in the parking lot of the Walmart after an officer noticed the man was drinking when he drove past his vehicle, police said.
