I would like to see an ordinance that says that businesses and homeowners on main roads and on sidewalks leading to schools need to shovel the sidewalks twenty four to forty hours after a major snowstorm. For example, the sidewalks leading to Floral School street via back entrance were not shoveled and resulted in children walking on Hunting Ave in arms way of car driving fast up and down the road. Bullying is also a serious problem in the workplace. Currently, there is a proposal called the Massachusetts Healthy Workplace Bill, House Docket 517 that would prevent and provide remedies for workers who are bullied at work. I am sure if this bill passes, it can be also applied to situations outside of the workplace as well. Please contact Representative Matt Beaton and Senator Michael Moore to ask them to support this bill.

It is also important to seek out support from friends, family, and counselors if needed. Also, to work with several resources such as Family Ties that provide support to parents. I refer parents out who have children with disabilities as part of my counseling responsibilities. View Comment
I look forward to hearing more about ideas and creative ways to pay for services with increasing demands. I would suggest moving the meetings to either the senior center or to the town hall to accommodate larger crowds and for persons with disabilities. Right now, persons with mobility impairments can't attend the meetings at the library. If the group is inclusive, then all residents can be able to attend with unfetted access.

Policy makers need to understand that cutting child care subsidies will only lead to more parents relying on the Department of Social Services to pay for their childcare. Unfortunately, some parents have to ask for voluntarily services to get the state to pay for their child's daycare as they are considered at risk families as their vouchers have been cut in the past. It is interesting to note how some countries in Europe such as Italy that charges families $ 300.00 a year to put their children in daycare starting at the age of three years old. Studies have proved that children enrolled in daycare at an early age are ready to go to school starting in kindergarten. View Comment
I agree that tough economic times does lead to more stress in the homes and in schools. Since Shrewsbury has a sufficient number of mental health providers in private practice, it is an opportunity to work with Shrewsbury Youth and Family Servies to provide a list of counselors in the area. You can file an access complaint with the Architectural Access Board (AAB) at www.mass.gov/aab or contact your local independent living center at www.centerlw.org. AAB is familiar with Shrewsbury as Shrewsbury has lost several appeals to be granted waivers on several projects in town. View Comment
It is awful that in order to get a stop sign you need three more crashes to do so. How ridiculous is that? Why do innocent people need to get hurt and endure psychological harm in order to get a stop sign? Why does more bloodshed need to be done? View Comment
One of the things the town can do to be more pedestrian friendly is to support better snow removal on its sidewalks on main roads such as Maple Ave to improve walkability during the winter months
Walkability is tied to the state's goal to decrease obesity among its residents and to improve better health outcomes for all.

The question regarding regionalizing services could save the towns money for the taxpayers. An example would be regionalizing the Family Services offices that each town offers to their residents. There is an ample supply of private practitioners in the Shrewsbury-Northborough-Westborough areas that can pick up the referrals for counseling services. A regionalized Family Services Department would be able to offer services to those residents who don't have heath insurance and need assistance for financial and other matters. A savings of $ 100,000 plus would be beneficial to the towns and residents' human service needs would not be compromised. View Comment

I found out from someone working at the career center for unemployment that an employment counselor is available to talk to vets about job and education opportunities. Please go to www.detma.org to find the career center closet to you.

I would like to see the Cheese Cake Factory move in one of those storefronts as it is a big draw in the Natick Mall (collections). The question is: Is Shrewsbury friendly to new businesses? That is a question that residents and officials needs to ask themselves. View Comment
Unfortunately, some individuals choose to both smoke and use oxygen in their homes. It is an issue of having control and there is not much anyone can do to prevent tragedies like these from happening.
Service Workers including myself who work with these individuals fear the worst when they freely choose to engage in these dangerous decisions.
Unless legislation is passed fine individuals who engage in these choices at home and have constant monitoring by service providers, the continuation of these incidents will persist.
One suggestion is to have the town fire departments and social service agencies meet to discuss this problem and ways to prevent future tragedies down the road. View Comment
