Juggy,
The only thing it tells me is that Northbridge is pretty much like every other town in the Commonwealth.
This has nothing to do with what "proposal" anyone favors.
The decision should have been up to us, the voters to decide.
I do not have to recalibrate my compass.
They erred, plain and simple... View Comment
Juggy,
Where do you get your facts/numbers for this town not having the financial base?
Everyone is pretty much on a fixed income ya know. Just like pretty much every town around here and the rest of the country is blue collar.
The issue is that we the taxpayers and electorate of this town should be allowed to decide if a DPW facility should be built and paid for by us.
WE voted to spend the money to have the study done and now that's it? That should infuriate both sides!
What could that money have paid for? Instead, they just threw it away.
Tom, Jim and Jay now decide what's best for me and my neighbors? Pffft!
As whderv said, the Whitins are gone, we as a community need to stand on our own and make decisions.
Whether it's 8 or 2million, 3 stooges should not have made that decision for me or anyone else in our town. They have failed miserably!

"I have known of several incidents where "non alphabet streets" teens have done wrong and things were "handled"."
AHHHH YES, the old "I heard" or "I know" of others that this happened to and (insert conspiracy theory here)...
This happened after he returned from a court date for disrupting school previously. So if he lived on Heights of Hill St, this would have been "handled'? I believe this is his 3rd or 4th offense of disturbing school assembly the article stated?
Save your "it's all about the money" argument.
Read the police logs published every week and see how much of our police resources are dispatched to that neighborhood...

Robb Haskins is a senior at Grafton High School
So, let's get on a forum and rip him for his shoddy reporting.
Seriously people.
OK let's make the Grafton peeps feel better:
Grafton had 47,000 shots on net and derserved to win but the Northbridge Girls bribe to the referees was bigger... View Comment
Did you not the article on this very site you post on reagrding the meeting?
It was published 09/17/2012.
"Let me say that when the town does not make an effort to make sure that the residents on Sutton Street are not effectively communicated to about important meetings like this, it appears that there is much to hide....and that you didn't want participation in, or questions from, the residents."
What an odd statement about a project that will improve one of the worst roads in town. Hide what? Jimmy Hoffa's remains???
Once again, someone who expects the town to do everything for them.
This was no secret, 7+ million dollar project that the town is only on the hook for a 1 million. Not a bad deal if you ask me.
I don't live on Sutton St, nor do I have cable (so no access to NCTV) yet, I still knew about it.
Please tell us what else the town needs to do for you...
Obviously, you were not a JFK fan...

OK,
So using that logic, if a person approached you on the street pulled out a gun and shot at you but missed, then no harm no foul right?
You said earlier the assets were paid for...ok
Thank goodness fuel for ATVs and Helicopters is free.
Thank goodness the personnel that operate those paid for assets work pro bono...
The fact that there wasn't a "real" emergency at the time this moron was allegedly reconnecting with nature is not much of an argument.
Do you think those conducting the search didn't think it was real?
What if one of the ATV operators had an accident and was killed or injured?
Or the helicopter malfunctioned and crashed, killing and/or injuring its operators or innocents on the ground.
Woulda, coulda, shoulda, we can argue all day. This guy is obviously unstable and should at the very least be committed for evaluation.
He admits to hearing the search party and wondered if they were looking for him?

We can plug up this board with shortcomings of 43 and Obama all day. They both stink to their varying degrees.
You stated that President Obama "SAVED" the Auto Industry, which he did not.
He forced them to file bankruptcy then loaned them 80 Billion of our money of which contrary to what he brags, has not been paid back.
He then took OUR stake in Chrysler and sold it to Fiat who is now the MAJORITY owner of Chrysler...
HE did not save it, he sold it... to a FOREIGN coroporation... View Comment
"Harpoon1212, remember if it was not for President Obama their would not be a flourishing United State's Auto Industry"
That is an ABSOLUTE falsehood. Bush 43 started the bailout in his waning days in office, it was completed under the current administration.
Had 43 not begun the process, the Auto Industry's fate (other than FORD who refused to have the American Taxpayer fix their misgivings) may have been different...
We seem to forget that the current President PROMISED to cut the deficit in half his first term...
And, last night's gobbledygook promised 4 Trillion in deficit reduction.
In reality, three years ago, when he made that promise to cut in half the deficit "we inherited" by the end of his first term, a mark he's set to miss by a WIDE margin. The deficit when he took office was $1.2 trillion, and the $800 billion stimulus bill Obama signed soon afterward increased the shortfall to over $1.4 trillion. The White House predicts this year's federal budget deficit will end up at $1.2 trillion, marking the fourth consecutive year of trillion dollar-plus red ink.
Obama's new $4 trillion target over 10 years resets the goalposts with some fancy budget footwork. For one thing, it includes $1 trillion in cuts already signed into law. And it assumes that Congress will pass the administration's plan to raise the capital gains tax, boost taxes on households earning over $250,000 a year and impose a minimum 30 percent tax on incomes above $1 million. It also assumes a reduction in the amount of interest the government must pay on its debt.
Now, considering this proposal has a lot of "assumptions', "potentials", and "presumptions" that's maybe why you are drinking from the Obama-Aid fountain.
Lest we all forget that this entire financial crisis began WAY BACK WHEN President "Just a Gigolo" Clinton repealed the Glass-Steagall act.
Then Congressman "Also Just a Gigolo" Frank deregulated the Mortgage industry and gave Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac blank checks.
Oh well, right now gas is almost $4.00 a gallon again. Damn that Bush-Cheney, at it again!

"The policy states, "“All residents and non-residents are hereby forbidden from bringing any and all dogs and/or any pets onto any town athletic and/or playground facility in which the youth participate in any type of sport or recreational activity.’’"
Sorry Jethro, Mr Ed gotta stay off Lasell...

Really? Are you serious?
Why should dogs be allowed to crap all over the athletic fields, where our children play? The bacteria and parasites in dog feces can cause serious issues for children.
I have a dog and walk him all over town but, on his leash is a (get ready for this, becuase it is obvious you don't use them) bag dispenser that I use to clean up after him.
Do you find it particulary attractive to walk the neighborhoods of this town and see pile after pile of dog doo on the burms, sidewalks and other places? Do you allow your dog to poop on your neighbors lawn?
Why shoud your dog be allowed to crap in the same spot my child plays on? Why should ANY dog be allowed to defacate and have it be left anywhere? It's disgusting, completely selfish and harmful to both people and other pets.
Go to Whitin Community Park, dogs are welcome there. They have signs that ask very nicely that you clean up after them...so maybe that's not the place for you or your pooch.
The beautiful landscaping behind Unibank on Cottage St, also a nice place to walk your dog. Again, they ask that you please clean up after them.
Wal-Mart sells them by the dozen for about $7. Pick up a pack and walk Fido to your hearts content. Just pick up the tootsie rolls please... View Comment
ALL,
Correct me if I am wrong. The Fletcher St property was deeded to the town by the Whitin family. Is there not a stipulation on the deed that states the land must be used for Highway Use/Maintenance?
A park is not feasible if that is case, no?

Correct, lazy was an unfortunate choice of words and characterization. Allow me to take this opportunity to apologize for that.
Now, the A students are the A students. It's in their blood. A desire to excel by personal commitment and a strong foundation at home. They will make something of themselves. A grass or turf field will not propel them in that direction.
The argument that the turf field will make our children better students was false. Hence, the C weed smoking reference.
If a "prime Northbridge citizen" means that I do not feel it should be burdened upon my neighbors to fund a project that not every person funding would benefit/utilize, as well leaving the same burden on the future generation of this community then, I wear the title with pride.
I commend you for the desire to make Lasell a better facility. The initiative is young and with time, you will find your private/corporate funding. Whether it be for turf or better way to maintain the existing grass surface. Either way, I believe it will come to fruition.

despite considerable effort, private funding did not pan out - FALSE
a turf field will promote equitability among the sports programs- boys and girls - WICKED FALSE
A turf field has no such usage restrictions. - Really? Apparenlty you haven't read the "warranty"
Boys and girls teams of different sports can (and will) use the field - NO, unfortunately they won't.
The community has other priorities that are likely to cause an increase in taxes in the coming years - AGREED
Now is the time for turf. - No, it isn't....
