When tragedies like Sandy Hook happen it affects us viscerally and its human nature to want to "do something" to keep us and our children safe. However, there are over 20,000 gun laws on the books around the country and 1 more law or ban will only curb the liberties of the law-abiding. Criminals, by definition, do not obey the laws so will be free to illegally obtain firearms.
Instead, we should be examining our mental health situation in the country as well as re-examining the safety policies in our schools (eg. response plans, allowing some teachers to have pepper spray/taser/concealed weapon). View Comment
The subject of medical marijuana is certainly a controversial one and voters should take care when making their decision. However the voters should be accurately informed as well.
The law would allow for 35 treatment centers in the entire state in 2013 with modification possible by the DPH in subsequent years. Its up to the voter if this qualifies as "numerous".
I'm not sure where the letter's author sees language that would allow teens to carry 60 days worth of marijuana though I suppose if a doctor provided written certification to a teen patient then said patient would be allowed to keep a 60 day supply. I would have to wonder how likely a doctor would be to provide such certification to a teen.
When making our decision on this issue, let's remember that in Massachusetts possession of less than 1 ounce of marijuana only results in a $100 fine. View Comment
More and more this looks like a divorce/custody issue gone bad. There's a much lower bar for allegations versus a conviction. I hope the facts in this case, whatever they may be, are aired out as it moves through the system. View Comment
No need for a trial, eh? Just pop him in jail and punish? Interesting that both of these events were reported in January. Could be following an "estranged wife" storyline. Let's see how these cases proceed before we go pillorying anyone.
Also, as with any other case where someone is accused, I hope Main Street Connect follows this story and reports on its disposition. View Comment
