- Sales tax gets increased 25%, (a repeal vote failed 57% to 43%)
- Local meal tax is allowed
- A vote to roll back the 1998 "temporary" income tax failed 70% to 30%
These alone prove there is no real want to keep taxes within reason.
You need to live within your mean and the government will just take more when they need it.
Keep electing the same people and expecting different results. You now have Warren to vote lock step with the people who claim zero culpability with the financial crisis.

Romney all the way! We will also be voting Scott Brown and Michael Moore.
I see below that when backed into a corner with facts another "tolerable" liberal started calling a candidate names. Sorry, but that renders your entire argument invalid and proves the needed maturity to have an adult discussion is sorely lacking.

Can your officers also "Be Aware of Motorcycles". Living in South Grafton so many times I have seen a patrol car parked at the South Grafton Fire station while obscenely loud motorcycles ruin yet another peaceful day.
If load cars get pulled over why not these guys? View Comment
I also think it's sad that the smoking debate has over 40 comment while this has barely 10.
Do we really think this town hates smokers more than a pedophile or do people generally just not care?
For the record I live in South Grafton and have no young children but fully believe in the 1 strike rule when it comes to kids and assault. This guy got his 1 chance and did it a second time, sorry, gone for life. I would be happy to see my tax dollars towards a lift time of hard jail time.

Barney and company had nothing to do with it? How anyone can blindly blame 1 party is a person that cannot look at the whole picture objectively. View Comment
Let me try to wrap my head around this...
He was convicted in August 2011 of two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under the age of 14. He had a previous conviction in May 1983 of three counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under the age of 14.
A level 3 is: A person where risk of reoffense is high and the degree of dangerousness posed to the public is such that a substantial public safety interest is served by active dissemination, it shall give a level 3 designation to the sex offender.
So again, he was convicted only 8 months ago and he's out of prison? What a joke, I wash my hands of this liberal state. View Comment
Fair enough, they didn't do the hiring but personally I would have stood up to my boss at the peril of my job, but I'm not everyone and I don't expect everyone to think like me. I'll admit that was posted in the heat of the moment. For that I'll change my position but putting the owners out of business would be ok by me.

I guess there is a 0% unemployment rate in OUR town. Hopefully with some support of the hard working CITIZENS of the town we can put the owners & employees of five star in the unemployment line.
This is a local place I USED to go to. I'm getting sick of hard working people getting the shaft. It used to be that working in a liqueur was a good gig for someone to pick up a couple extra bucks. Nowadays it's more than likely someone’s sole means of putting food on the table. That is unless someone that is here ILLEGALLY/CRIMINALLY gets the job over them.
The same with his aunt getting public housing while vets come home to stand in line for housing now they can just stand in line for a job I guess.
Sad, so sad.

I guess there is no local US citizen that could use a job. I will use an urge everyone to use Grafton Liquors or Valley Plaza in South Grafton.
Time to boycott, and what is the other area liquor store? View Comment
Drop the hyperbole, who said to "shut them down". Do you not see how 3 non consecutive days is a very light penalty, especially if the establishment gets to pick the days?
I believe the average 1st time penalty in this state is 6 consecutive days but I would need to research that to be 100% sure.
The owner should have video in the bar to watch and monitor the employees, cash registers and that patrons are not being over served. They also should self check and file a current certificate with the Chief that any new employee has just completed training BEFORE being allowed to serve 1 drink. This goes for bartenders and waitstaff.
Insist that all establishment install and use an ID scanning machine. I would even make this a requirement for reinstatement of the licence.
See I'm for making stronger training and compliance laws that protect all townspeople. View Comment
Did I miss the part of the article that stated she was TIPS certified? Did it also say how recent it was? Do they card EVERYONE that appears under 35 on EVERY VISIT as a policy?
If you want a drink ~ show it. Post the policy as well.
Full disclosure, I'm TIPS and ServSafe certified but not currently working in the field by my choice.
I'll alos admit it's been over a year since I have been in the POP. I usually sat in the bar at a table and found the servers very nice. But the few times I sat at the bar the bartenders were very inattentive and it seemed like I was a bother to them. They spent time with whom I could only assume were regulars. View Comment
Professional bartenders are trained to ask for an ID if the person does not look to be at least 35 years old. Regardless of how busy it is.
Establishments must hire seasoned professional bartenders. Was this person certified recently by TIPS or ServSafe? If so than the POP should sue to recover for the lost money and harm to reputation. Plus these programs help train individuals to spot intoxication and how to stop over serving customers. Owners should require this for every employee before hiring; it’s obviously worth the cost.
Hire, (and pay), seasoned professionals, insist on the training even for well-established servers and re-certify every 2 years. Watch and observe your employees behavior. If they don’t ask for an ID even from regulars - suspend them. In the end everyone will be safe and there will be no need for the police or selectmen to get involved.
