SHREWSBURY, Mass. — The Shrewsbury High Colonials exorcised some demons on a chilly Friday night, defeating the Leominster Blue Devils football team, 33-32.
Mike Coggeshall's touchdown pass to wide receiver Ryan Dube with four seconds left to play was enough for Shrewsbury to squeak by.
Early in the first quarter, the Blue Devils (5-4) scored on their first drive, with quarterback Garrett DelleChiaie carrying for the touchdown. Shrewsbury answered back with touchdowns by Nick Diliberto and Jay Reynolds.
The first half ended with Shrewsbury up, 13-6.
Both teams duked it out until the tail end of the fourth quarter, with Leominster leading, 33-32. But Coggeshall's completion to Dube brought the crowd to its feet and put the game in the win column for Shrewsbury, which is now 7-2.
Shrewsbury Head Coach Terry Walles gave credit to the Colonials' defense, which came alive during the second half. Walles also praised Coggeshall for performing well under pressure. "The guy just made plays," he said.
