Central Mass Football Heats Up In November

MILLBURY, Mass. — There are some great football games on the slate in Central Massachusetts this weekend. This week’s game of the week is the undefeated Auburn Rockets at home taking on Matt Phelan and the Northbridge Rams.

Friday, Nov. 2
Southbridge at Millbury:
7 p.m. Southbridge (3-5) beat Uxbridge behind a 111-yard rushing effort and two touchdowns by Ariel De La Cruz. The Pioneers leap-frogged Millbury and Lunenburg for the fourth and final playoff spot in Division 4 with the win. This one will have big playoff implications,

Millbury (4-4) will be looking to rebound after taking it on the chin 37-16 last week at David Prouty.

Tantasqua at Grafton: 7 p.m. Tantasqua (4-4) comes in after a big 52-6 win over Burncoat last week.

Grafton (5-3) was shut out by Auburn week but boasts one of the best defenses in the league and will be looking to rebound.

Northbridge at Auburn: 7 p.m. This week’s game of the week, Auburn (8-0) has been nothing short of unstoppable. Last week the Rockets scored 27 points and shut out a very tough Grafton team. Northbridge (7-1) recovered from its only setback at Shepherd Hill to blast Oxford 33-0.

Auburn’s tough defense will be looking to shut down Rams quarterback Matt Phelan who has easily been this year’s MVP.

Leominster at Shrewsbury: 7 p.m. Shrewsbury (6-2) beat Hudson 34-22 last week behind a 95-yard rushing performance by Zach Dionis who also scored three touchdowns.

Leominster (5-3) dropped a tough 14-6 game to Brockton last week.

North Middlesex at Algonquin: 7 p.m. Algonquin (1-7) was routed by Holy Name last week 60-35 but Stephen Roy did score two touchdowns on runs of 55 and 35 yards.

North Middlesex (3-5) lost to St. Peter Marian 22-6 last week.

Wachusett at Milford: 7 p.m. The Mountaineers (5-3) lost a close one to Westborough last week 21-20, blowing a 14 point lead to the winless Rangers.

Milford (2-6) lost to Marlborough 20-10 last week.

St. John's at Fitchburg: 7 p.m. St. John’s (4-4) dropped their fourth game in a row, losing to Xaverian 33-31.

Fitchburg (1-7) was blown out by Shepherd Hill 40-27 last week.

Saturday, Nov. 3
Marlborough at Westborough:
1 p.m. The Rangers (1-7) should opt to play more night games. Last week they notched their first win of the season over the No. 5-ranked Wachusett Mountaineers 21-20 as Dan Orlando scored a 4-yard touchdown late in the third quarter for the go-ahead touchdown.

Leicester at Uxbridge: 2 p.m. Leicester (6-2) blasted Bartlett 34-6 last week as Nick Kenneway ran for 151 yards and a touchdown.

Uxbridge (2-6) last week lost to Southbridge 22-8.
