SHREWSBURY, Mass. — The Algonquin Tomahawks girls varsity basketball team roared from behind in the third period Tuesday at Shrewsbury, overcoming a seven-point deficit to defeat the Colonials, 53-42.
The Tomahawks got a shot of energy in the third period, scoring 24 points and securing the lead for the rest of the game.
“We had to play with an urgency,” Algonquin Head Coach Ron Jones said. “We're not a good half-court team so we needed to get transition points and play with an urgency we hadn't been playing with.”
The second half could revitalize the team, which lost its two previous games to Marlborough and Nashoba, Jones said.
“I think we can play with anybody, but we need to come to play,” he said. “If we come with the intensity that we had in the second half, we can beat anybody. If we don't, we can lose to anybody.”
