SHREWSBURY, Mass. — The winner of the Shrewsbury Schools Music Association's annual Grand Raffle is donating the cash prize to fight amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

Patricia Slaughter of Shrewsbury got to choose between a new snow blower or $500 cash after winning the drawing, held Dec. 18 at the Oak Middle School seventh grade concert.

Joanne Smith of the SSMA said on Wednesday that Slaughter was donating the cash prize to the ALS Association in honor of a friend.

Caola Equipment has been the sponsor of the SSMA's Grand Raffle for years, donating the snow blower or cash. The Slaughter family decided to take the cash.

Second prize, two tickets to see "Lord of the Dance" at Hanover Theatre in March, was won by Susan Kelly, also of Shrewsbury.

Third prize, a Kindle Touch, was won by Patty Meehan of Connecticut.

All money the SSMA raises goes to support students in the Shrewsbury schools music and theater departments. For more information, visit
