SHREWSBURY, Mass. — The Shrewsbury Education Foundation will honor former school committee member Mark Murray with the Community Service for Shrewsbury Public Schools Award.
Murray will receive the award during the foundation's annual awards dinner at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Cyprian Keyes Golf Club in Boylston.
The Community Service for Shrewsbury Public Schools Award is presented to a town leader who has gone above and beyond in delivering outstanding service to the community and to the Shrewsbury Public Schools.
Murray served five terms on the Shrewsbury School Committee, from 1996 to 2011. He has been a coach for Shrewsbury Youth Soccer, Shrewsbury Youth Hockey and Shrewsbury Little League, an assistant track coach for the high school track team, in addition to completing 10 Boston Marathons. Murray currently is an associate publisher of the Worcester Business Journal.
The foundation also will celebrate the recipients of the John P. Collins Awards for Excellence, which are awarded to those who continuously exemplify the high standards of professionalism and a commitment to lifelong learning. Named for the former Shrewsbury superintendent, they will be presented in five categories: professional educators, paraprofessionals, support staff, team teachers and leadership.
Tickets to the dinner are $65 and are tax-deductible. Ticket purchases support teacher grant programs and awards.
