Updated at 10:20 p.m. SHREWSBURY, Mass. — A man was struck and killed by a motor vehicle at about 6 p.m. Thursday on the Hartford Turnpike.
At 5:56 p.m. Thursday, officers were dispatched to the vicinity of 200 Hartford Turnpike, or Route 20, according to a statement by Shrewsbury Police.
A 2010 Jeep Liberty operated by Joanne Breault of Jericho, Vt., was traveling east on Route 20, when it struck the victim, who was attempting to cross the street near Edgemere Trailer Park, police said.
Police, fire units and UMass Medical paramedics treated the victim. He was transported to UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester, where he was pronounced dead. The victim’s identity was being withheld until his family was notified.
Breault was not injured in the accident.
The accident was under investigation by Officer Richard H Fiske, Shrewsbury police accident reconstructionist. Assisting in the investigation was the Central Mass Law Enforcement Regional Reconstruction Team.
The Shrewsbury accident reconstruction team had cleared the scene by about 8:30 p.m. Both lanes of traffic were open by then.
