WESTBOROUGH, Mass. — A Shrewsbury man is being held without bail after being charged with beating his 83-year-old mother, Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. announced.
Sean C. Connolly, 44, of 30 Cross St., Shrewsbury, was charged with assault and battery on a person over 60 with injury, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon – in this case, a knife.
The victim, Paula H. Connolly, who lives with her son, was transported to UMass Memorial Hospital with multiple injuries Monday night, Early's office said in a news release.
Shrewsbury Police were dispatched to the Connollys' address at 10:43 p.m. after receiving reports of the assault. Police found the victim with bloody face and hands.
Police arrested Sean Connolly after questioning him.
Connolly's next court appearance is scheduled on Dec. 21.
The case is under investigation by the State Police detectives assigned to the Worcester COunty District Attorney's Office and Shrewsbury Police.
