SHREWSBURY, Mass. — A Shrewsbury man has pleaded not guilty at an arraignment in Worcester Superior Court on charges he assaulted his 83-year-old mother with a knife, and is being held on $100,000 bail.
Sean C. Connolly, 44, of 30 Cross St., pleaded not guilty Dec. 21 to three charges:
- Armed assault to murder a person over 60, which carries a maximum 20 year sentence;
- Assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person over 60, which carries a 15 year sentence;
- Aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person over 60, which carries a maximum 10 year sentence.
The victim, Paula H. Connolly, who lived with her son, was transported to UMass Memorial Hospital with multiple injuries the night of Nov. 25. Shrewsbury Police were dispatched to the Connollys' home after receiving reports of the assault.
Police said they found the victim with bloody face and hands, and arrested Sean Connolly after questioning him. Paula Connolly reportedly has since been released from the hospital.
A pretrial conference is scheduled for Feb. 21, according to a Worcester County District Attorney spokesman.
