SHREWSBURY, Mass. — Police are on the lookout for a man who jumped naked into Lake Quinsigamond and swam to shore in broad daylight.
Shrewsbury Police said they received a report from Worcester Police on Aug. 29 at 1:14 p.m. that a male with no clothes was attempting to jump off the Route 9 bridge that spans the narrow lake.
Witness told Shrewsbury Police that the unidentified man made a successful jump into the lake near the Buca di Beppo restaurant, which overlooks the lake.
Police said the man managed to swim to shore and got dressed behind a Dumpster, before fleeing the area.
According to Shrewsbury Police Sgt. Alfred Pratt, police were at first concerned that this was a suicide attempt, but now they're not sure what the man was thinking.
"We're not sure if it's a prank," he said.
According to Pratt, it is an illegal act to jump into the lake that can result in arrest.
If caught, the man could also have been charged with indecent exposure, disturbing the peace, and disorderly conduct, said Pratt.
