Car Strikes Homeless Man on Route 9 In Shrewsbury

SHREWSBURY, Mass. ‒ A 58-year-old homeless man was struck by a car as he attempted to cross Route 9 Tuesday evening.

Police said they received a call about the incident at around 5:42 p.m., and that both the pedestrian and the vehicle's operator were on scene when officers arrived.

Police said Joseph Liberty was crossing the westbound lane of Route 9 from the median when he was struck by a 2005 Subaru Legacy operated by Joann Carson, 56, of Canton. The operator was not injured.

The injured man was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital in Worcester. 

The accident remains under investigation by Officer Nicholas P. Perna of the Shrewsbury Police.
