SHREWSBURY, Mass. - Beulah P. Gaustad, 96, of Shrewsbury, formerly of Seaside, OR, and Anchorage, AK, died on Sunday, Nov. 25, at her residence.
She is survived by her daughter Karen G. Merrill and her husband Gary, of Louisville, CO; son Richard D. Gaustad of Stansbury Park, UT; daughter Christine Ebstein and her husband Robert, of Clinton, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Mrs. Gaustad was born in Medford on Dec. 23, 1915. She graduated from Concord High School and attended Boston University. She lived an adventurous life, traveling to South America, eventually making her way to Alaska where she met and married the late Sidney O. Gaustad. They were homesteaders in Anchorage where they raised their three children. They spent many of their retirement years in Seaside, OR, where they danced several nights a week, volunteered at Seaside Historical Society, and walked the two-mile ocean-side boardwalk. They were lifetime members of the American Legion and Elks, and were very active in the Moose club.
Mrs. Gaustad was a very talented artist, dancer, writer and wordsmith. Her passion for words and language were evident both in her writing and poetry, and in the sayings she was fond of sharing. She was still quoting Latin into her 90s. She will be greatly missed by her family.
A memorial celebration will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Ebstein home at 353 Church Street in Clinton. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to McNally & Watson Funeral Home, 304 Church St., Clinton.
