SHREWSBURY, Mass. – Joseph "Ronnie" O.R. Roberge, of Shrewsbury, died Jan. 4 at Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after an illness. He was 88.
He was born Jan. 4, 1925, in Gilman, Vt., to Edward and Aurore Bowdoin Roberge. He graduated from South High School in Worcester and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He worked as a licensed master plumber for various contractors in the Worcester County area and retired from Sprague Electric in Worcester.
Roberge enjoyed spending time with his sons camping while they were growing up and being surrounded by his family.
He also enjoyed collecting many items and never really discarded anything, his family said. He especially loved gardening and spent many hours growing vegetables for his family and friends.
His wife of 42 years, Lorraine (Fournier) Roberge, died in 1989. He is survived by four sons, Ronald Roberge of Austin, Texas, Mark (Jean) Roberge, of Shrewsbury, Guy (Cheryl) Roberge, of Westborough, and Matthew Roberge, and his partner, Steven Vigue, of Shrewsbury; a brother, Bruce Roberge, of Grafton; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at St. Mary of the Hills Church in Boylston, Mass. Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
