SHREWSBURY, Mass. – John "Jack" E. Cherwek of Shrewsbury died Feb. 5 after a serious car accident. He was 76.
He was born Feb. 26, 1936, and raised in Salem, the son of John and Lillian Chulyk Cherwek. He lived in Shrewsbury for many years.
He graduated from Northeastern University in Boston and worked as a comptroller for the Sears Roebuck Co. for many years prior to his retirement.
Cherwek loved everything about the outdoors, his family said. He was an active member of Bethlehem Bible Church in West Boylston.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruby M. Benson Cherwek; two children, Mark (Charleen) Cherwek, of Quincy, Mass., and Tracy (Steven) May, of North Grafton; a sister, Joyce Mentus, of Riverside, R.I.; five grandchildren and three nieces.
Visitation is from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home in Shrewsbury and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Bethlehem Bible Church. A service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Shrewsbury.
