Doris Hutchinson, 98, Of Shrewsbury

Doris Hutchinson

SHREWSBURY, Mass. – Doris M. Weagle Hutchinson of Shrewsbury died Jan. 15 at Shrewsbury Crossings. She was 98.

Hutchinson was born Oct. 9, 1914, in Shrewsbury to Stephen J. and Maud Newton Weagle. A lifelong Shrewsbury resident, she graduated from the former Maj. Howard W. Beal High School, where she played basketball. She married Chester Hutchinson on April 7, 1945.

She worked as a secretary for the town of Shrewsbury Sewer and Water Department for more than 30 years before retiring in 1980.

Hutchinson was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury and its women's fellowship. She was a member of the Shrewsbury Business Women's Association. She enjoyed bowling, traveling and working in her yard

Her husband predeceased her on Aug. 25, 1982. She was also predeceased by three brothers, Harold, Stanley and Richard Weagle.

Hutchinson is survived by a son, Richard L. (Jeanne) Hutchinson, of Egg Harbor Township, N.J.; two siblings, Donald Weagle, of Shrewsbury, and Joyce Cheney, of Worcester; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Heald and Chiampa Funeral Directors Sumner House in Shrewsbury Center. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Congregational Church. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church, Building Fund, 19 Church Road, Shrewsbury MA 01545.
