SHREWSBURY, Mass. - For those that have been wondering about Halloween in Shrewsbury, the town has issued the following statement:

"The Town of Shrewsbury does not have a policy on Halloween and has always left the decision whether to trick-or-treat to the discretion of parents and guardians.

It is in that spirit that we ask you to use caution in deciding if children should trick-or-treat this evening keeping in mind the safety of sidewalks and roads that may still contain snow and debris from the weekend storm."

So the town did the right thing for safety sake when they cancelled school today, but let's keep Halloween on tonight so the kiddos can run from house to house among the fallen tree limbs and wires...in the dark! Seriously...? I understand that the town doesn't have a policy for postponing Halloween, but seeing that we had a state of emergency wouldn't this year be a good year to start a policy? They say it's parents discretion, how about the fact that we are the only town locally still having it tonight, let's welcome more kiddos to our safe streets. Let's not forget the most obvious...some of us are still WITHOUT power!
