SHREWSBURY, Mass. – Current Chairman of the Board of Selectmen Jim Kane won re-election in the Annual Town Election today with a decisive win over his competitor Ben Tartaglia.
Kane won the seat with 72 percent, or 2,491 votes, compared with Tartaglia's 27.7 percent, or 959 votes.
The turnout for today's election was low, with only 15 percent of the registered voters turning out in the rainy weather.
Kane will be serving his second term after being elected for his first in 2009.
"I think this is the death of politics of misery," Kane said. "I am thrilled with the outcome, but I think it is not so much about me rather than a statement of what this town stands for."
Kane went on to say that he believed a vote for him was a vote for the continued path of fiscal conservatism for the town, balanced with investing in projects to beneft town. Tartaglia also would have been serving his second t erm after he sought re-election and lost in a four-way race last year.
