SHREWSBURY, Mass. — Central Massachusetts drivers are urged to be cautious the next day or so due to freezing rain conditions. Shrewsbury Weather Analyst Jim Arnold is warning of a National Weather Service freezing rain advisory for northern Worcester County, and points north and west of the City of Worcester.

The freezing rain advisory will be in effect from 4 p.m. this afternoon to 7 a.m. Temperatures will hold at or slightly below freezing for most of the time.

Ice accumulations could amount to one-tenth of an inch Saturday and slippery driving conditions may occur on untreated roadways.

"I do not think the Worcester hills will see much, if any, freezing rain, although scattered areas are a possibility as far south as the higher ground to the north and west of the Shrewsbury-Worcester area, including the towns of Princeton, Holden, Rutland and Paxton," Arnold said. "There are no concerns or issues related to this to our east and southeast, including the coastal plain, Cape and Islands.

Temperatures will be warmer Saturday and Sunday, possibly reaching into the low 50s. Arnold said cold air will return Monday and Tuesday, possibly bringing a wintery mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain.
