SHREWSBURY, Mass. — The snow has stopped, and Central Massachusetts residents have taken out shovels and snow blowers to dig themselves out of the snow which clobbered the area Friday and Saturday morning.

Shrewsbury Weather Analyst Jim Arnold called the storm a "historic event by any measure."

"(Shrewsbury) did escape the worst of the wind, but not by much.  Worcester Airport reported gusts to nearly 45 mph all night. …  As a result, drifting was not nearly as severe as I had expected," Arnold said.

Final snow totals are still being tallied, however, according to the National Weather Service's list of selected communities, Shrewsbury received 27 inches of snow between 7 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday. Worcester received 28, Logan Airport got 21.8, and Uxbridge received 17.

Milford registered a peak wind gust of 65 mph, which sounds bad until you compare it to Westport, Conn., which was hit by a whopping 82 mph gust.

As far as what's next, Arnold stated: "Now that winter has begun to be winter, we can expect more storminess, but not for several days and hopefully not nearly as severe as this one.  We will see a bit of wintry precipitation on Monday into Monday night but it will be relatively unimportant and of nuisance value in all likelihood.  Most of next week should be pretty benign, with temperatures in the high 30s to low 40s and mainly partly cloudy skies."

But there's already potential for a storm around Feb. 16, when temperatures begin to fall as cold air heads back our way, according to Arnold.

And I'm reading it on the Grafton page...

kim.bagley:

Interesting, Eric. I am reading this on Upton Daily Voice. I guess all the towns use the same stories.

Here is the question of the day. This page is dedicated to Auburn news... How much snow did Auburn get?
