Grant Helps Immigrants Learn English In Shrewsbury

SHREWSBURY, Mass. — The Shrewsbury Public Library has been awarded a $4,500 grant from the Greater Worcester Community Foundation to help residents learn English as a second language.

Since the circle began in 2010, students, including immigrants from five continents, have been taking beginner and intermediate classes facilitated by four experienced teachers. The foundation's grant will sustain the program through 2013.

Those interested in registering for classes should stop by the library's reference desk or call 508-841-8533. The class schedule is as follows:

Beginners: 5-6 p.m. Thursdays and 10:30-11:30 a.m. Saturdays.

Intermediate Learners: 2-3 p.m. Tuesdays and 5-6 p.m. Wednesdays.
