GRAFTON, Mass. - The Grafton Fine Arts & Music Festival is seeking local artists for the festival's eighth year, which will include free admission to its art show and demonstrations.
The festival, planned for Saturday, March 23, at the Grafton Municipal Center, will be condensed this year into just one day. The events will include:
- A youth reception and award ceremony at 11 a.m.
- Art exhibits, music performances and art demonstrations from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- A closing reception from 6 to 8 p.m.
Each year, the Grafton Fine Arts & Music Festival is the home to hundreds of pieces of art submitted by local artists. The winners are judged anonymously by a panel of distinguished independent judges.
Major prizes are sponsored by the Grafton Suburban Credit Union. Three prize winners will be determined in each of the following categories: fiber art, graphic art (pen and ink, pencil, pastels), oil/acrylic painting, watercolor paintings, traditional photography (image captured via film camera and printed from darkroom), digital photography (image captured via digital camera and printed from computer), sculpture and clay art, mixed media/assemblage.
An additional prize category was created for this year’s festival to include two-dimensional digital art (other than photography), such as drawing or painting created using a computer program.
Twelve outstanding art pieces will be selected from both the children (age 5-11) and youth (age 12-18) display.
Grafton Land Trust is sponsoring four additional prizes for all submitted artwork: Best Nature Artwork, Best Nature Photo, Best Child’s Nature Artwork (age 5-11), Best Youth Nature Artwork (age 12-18). Prizes in this category are determined by the Land Trust independent judges.
Grafton Historical Society this year will also sponsor two additional prizes for young artists: Best Child’s drawing or photo of a historic building or artifact (age 5-11) and Best Youth’s drawing or photo of a historic building or artifact (age 12-18). These prizes will be determined by the representatives of the Grafton Historical Society.
Deadline for art submissions is March 11. The artist application is available at www.graftonartsfestival.org and in paper form at various places in Grafton and beyond, including the Grafton Municipal Center and Grafton Library.
