New Canaan's Hanley Earns Honors at Bowdoin

It was just three years ago that Will Hanley helped lead New Canaan's basketball team to its best finish in school history. He's continuing his success at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, where the junior was named this week as the Player of the Week by the Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association.

Hanley averaged 21.3 points, 10.0 rebounds, 5.3 assists and two blocks as Bowdoin won three games last week, lifting the team to a 6-2 mark. Against Colby, he went 12-of-18 from the floor to finish with 29 points, leading the Polar Bears to a 7-point victory. Hanley recorded a double-double (17/13) at Colby-Sawyer.

Currently, Hanley ranks second in the NESCAC at 19.8 points per game and fifth in rebounds with 9.3 per game. He is also shooting a hot 55 percent from the floor.

Hanley started all 25 games last year for Bowdoin and played in all 26 games as a freshman. The 6-foot, 7-inch Hanley earned All-Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference first team honors in 2008, when he was also an All-State selection.

Justin Nowell of Cos Cob, who played at Brunswick, has also started all eight games for Bowdoin.
