The PTSA U14 girls played top competition including RCD Espanyol “A”, a La Liga youth team who ended up winning the U14 championship.
RCD Espanyol had several girls from the Spain National Team playing on their team.
“Playing in a high end European tournament filled with pre- and post-game formalities exposed our girls to a new cultural experience that they can grow from. The Spanish teams and coaches were all very welcoming and showed beautiful hospitality," Owen Scully, PTSA Academy Director said in a statement. "We will always remember that. This was our inaugural overseas trip and we will look to repeat these international trips annually."
In the semifinals, the PTSA team played in a stadium outside of Salou in a nearby urban center with a large crowd of locals who came out to watch the “US vs Spain” youth match.
PTSA will hold tryouts on May 5 and May 7 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Briarcliff High School Turf field.
