Westporters Directed to Use Wilton Shelter

WILTON, Conn. – The emergency shelter at Miller-Driscoll Elementary will be open another night to residents of Wilton, Weston and Westport.

According to shelter manager Cathy Pierce, the shelters in Weston and Westport are consolidating with Wilton due to the small number of people attending in those towns.

Pierce expects an increase Tuesday night from the 19 that slept at the shelter Monday night. “But you never know,” she said.

When it comes to food and blankets, Pierce said they have enough. The shelter also has cots available, according to a release from the Wilton Fire Department.

Pets are welcome. "If there’s people here, there’s pets here,” Pierce said, adding that the shelter is taking it day by day.

Residents should remember, however, that the shelter at Miller-Driscoll does not have showering facilities. For that, people can go to the Wilton Family Y.
