Golf Course Opponent Teed Off at Planning Process

CORTLANDT, NY-- A public hearing will be held Wednesday night before the Cortlandt Planning Board for several proposed additions at the Hollow Brook Golf Club.

One person certain to be in attendance at Cortlandt Town Hall for the 7 p.m. meeting is Andrew Fischer, president of Hollowbrook Water Watch, a group formed in 2003 by concerned citizens whose goal is to protect and preserve the pure quality drinking water from the Hollowbrook Watershed and other waterways.

Fischer has expressed concerns with the Planning Board not requiring an environmental review of the golf club's application to add a 1,600-square-foot swimming pool, 1,500-square-foot, two story bridal suite and locker rooms, 288-square-foot snack bar and other amenities.

In addition, Fischer is unhappy with the rapid progression of the application and the fact a draft resolution will be ready for the Planning Board's approval Wednesday night, the first meeting where public comment is being permitted. He noted the Planning Board held 18 public hearings over a four-year period when the golf club was being proposed, along with 14 additional meetings where public input was taken. The golf club, located on Oregon Road, was approved in 2003.
