The story of his escape is one of fortuitous luck and friendship dating back to World War I. The tale was the inspiration for this biography as it is both a story of luck and of courage. Deutsch immigrated to the U.S., married, and had a successful business career with Godiva Chocolates, creating the gold packaging and helping make the company the Tiffany of Chocolates. In retirement, Deutsch embarked on a second, deeply rewarding career in photography.
