Dobbs Ferry High School Ready for Heat

After a recent break from the heat, temperatures are back into the 80s and they are anticipated to reach the 90s this week. Dobbs Ferry's temperatures are predicted to climb to as high as 97 degrees on Wednesday and 98 degrees on Thursday, before cooling off again.

With the temperatures at such incredible highs, it is uncomfortable for most and even downright dangerous for others. The Chemka Pool in Hastings will do its part to combat the heat with extended hours for Wednesday and Thursday. The village pool opens at 12 p.m. on both days and will close at its normal time of 8 p.m. rather than its regular weekday hours of 3 p.m.-8 p.m.

The weather will be sweltering this week, which is unfortunate news for local children who are still in school. Dobbs Ferry High School said it will do everything it can to help alleviate some of the discomfort during the heat wave. School officials said they are planning to move some classes from the high school to the middle school where there are more air conditioned classrooms. Some of the classrooms in the high school do have window-mounted air conditioners, but most do not. The cafeteria was discussed as a location to have classes because of its air conditioning, but there may be too much activity already taking place there, including the various lunch periods.

The school said it plans to utilize the library and the computer lab to take advantage of the air conditioning.
