SHREWSBURY, Mass. — The first annual Stockings for Seniors event hosted by Shrewsbury Crossings will bring holiday cheer to homebound seniors in the area.
Kelly Marcimo, director of community relations at Shrewsbury Crossings, delivered more than 100 holiday stockings to Sharon Yager, executive director of Shrewsbury Council on Aging at the Shrewsbury Senior Center.
The council will distribute the stockings via the Meals on Wheels program this holiday season.
Donations came from many individuals in town, as well as businesses and health care providers from surrounding communities. Central One Credit Union donated items for the stockings and the reusable shopping bags used for distribution. Herbert Candies donated holiday chocolate bars.
Residents from the assisted living community participated by shopping for items to fill the stockings, which were donated by Benchmark Senior Living. Some personally donated stockings.
“We are absolutely thrilled with the generous response from our community and business partners," said Marcimo. "The number of stockings was beyond our expectations, and we look forward to doing this as our annual holiday giving event. We know this may be the only gift some of the seniors may receive, and we are so pleased to be able to bring the spirit of the holiday to them.”
Shrewsbury Crossings offers assisted living and the Harbor Program of care for those with Alzheimer’s disease and other memory impairments.
